A Better Beginning is the fourth priority ops mission. It is acquired automatically while speaking with Jarun Tann during Nexus Reunion in Tann's Office on the Nexus.

Description[ | ]

The Nexus needs a resource-producing outpost, but Eos is the only planet in range. As the only Pathfinder, you have been asked to achieve the impossible: find a way to settle Eos and give the Initiative the foothold it needs. Director Tann has committed the resources for a last ditch effort, including a ship and support team for the Pathfinder.

Eos colonization effort failed because of radiation in its atmosphere. But you recognized a signal like you found on Habitat 7. If similar alien technology is here, you may be able to create the conditions to place an outpost. Find the signal, make Eos viable, and give the Initiative the foothold it needs.

The search for a way to activate Eos' atmosphere processor has led underground to a mysterious Remnant vault. Most of its systems appear to be locked down. Explore the vault and find a way to lift the system lockdown.

Prodromos is founded. The radiation will be slow to clear, but Mayor Bradley will ensure the outpost thrives. Return to the Nexus and speak with Director Tann.

Notes[ | ]

The objective Find a code to access locked buildings can be completed by finding one of two datapads in Site 1 or by scanning Theo J. Harwell's dead body which also can start the mission Task: Naming the Dead.

Even though Ryder can drive around Eos after completing the mission, many areas are inaccessible due to lethal radiation levels. It is recommended that Ryder returns once the radiation has cleared. Eos will be cleared and the radiation gone after Ryder has visited Aya for the first time during A Trail of Hope. Just go to Aya directly after "A Better Beginning" has completed, and then return to Eos.

There is no AVP reward for calling down the first forward station, but the first landing on Eos provides the same reward.

The road from the northern monolith to the western monolith passes a forward station drop point; it is possible to gain 2 AVP and 2% Eos viability by pausing long enough to activate the drop. The drive from the southern monolith to the vault also passes a forward station drop point. Again, pausing for the drop will add another 2 AVP and 2% Eos viability.

A forward station is established on the vault's island after the vault is activated, but no additional AVP is awarded.

Glyphs must be scanned at all monoliths, one at the northern monolith (closest to Site 1), two at the western monolith, and two at the southern monolith (Kett Research Center is located here), but only the western monolith requires solving a Remnant decryption puzzle.

The northern monolith must be activated first; the glyphs at the western and southern monoliths are inaccessible until that happens.

The Monolith sub-mission appears upon approaching the western and southern monoliths. The northern monolith doesn't have this mission.

Collecting the unsealed item on the way out of the vault counts as an encounter. XP is earned and the amount can be increased by wearing Initiative armor, Deep Space Explorer armor, or the Andromeda Elite Helmet.

Research Opportunities[ | ]

There are a lot of items that can be scanned for Research Data (RD) on this mission. +290 Milky Way RD, +380 Heleus RD, +540 Remnant RD. Additional small amounts of RD from explosive canisters can also be acquired but these items are found throughout the game so that RD isn't listed here.

Site 1: Promise[ | ]
